Simple Eco-Friendly Cleaning Tips
Finding the right eco-friendly cleaning supplies may be very difficult. Eco-friendly cleaning supplies can be expensive, but it is easy to make affordable products at home! Here are five different products you can use to ensure an effective and eco-friendly approach for your home or office cleaning.
A Lemon is an excellent natural cleanser with antibacterial, degreasing and neutralizing properties of bad odour. Lemon has a high content of citric acid which makes it an effective cleanser.
Use for: Freshen the garbage disposal, clean and deodorize smelly plastic containers, polish spotty knives, and to clean to microwave.
Vinegar has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties that make it an excellent home cleaning product and does not cause allergies or irritation. It is a good degreaser and disinfectant.
To make an all-purpose cleaner, mix 1-cup vinegar, 2 teaspoons borax, 4-cups hot water, 5 drops liquid dish soap, 10 drops tea tree oil, and 10 drops your favourite essential oil (to get rid of the vinegar smell!)
Use for: dishwasher, windows and mirrors
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) can be used to absorb grease or oil stains. It is a great way to neutralize and remove bad odours from almost all materials and rooms in your home.
It can be used on its own or mixed with other homemade products.
Use for: cleaning drains, grouts and marks on walls
Olive oil has properties which help protect wood and other delicate materials. It also can be used to prevent mirrors and windows from fogging.
Use for: Stainless steel, leather chairs and silverware
The natural oils from the orange peel have antiseptic and antibacterial properties which can be used to clean and sanitize any surface.
Using a mason jar, peel two oranges and put the peeled skin into the jar. Fill up the jar with white vinegar and let it sit with the peels for 2 weeks. After two weeks fill up a spray container and use the orange cleaner to sanitize!
Use for: Countertops, bed frames and tables
